Slurry seal

Sealing highway and footway surfaces, protecting them against the ingress of water and the detrimental effects of freeze thaw.

Rhino slurry sealing is a cold-mix, bitumen emulsion overlay for repairing and sealing highway and footway surfaces. A cost-effective method of restoring the surface finish with texture and sealing which will slow down deterioration and thereby extend the service life of the surface.

A quick and easy solution for many road and footway maintenance problems. Rhino slurry uses a blend of aggregate, bitumen emulsions and latex to provide a slurry seal for:

Hand mix, hand lay: suitable for awkward to get to places.

Combine with our range of patching and crack repair products to reprofile the surface prior to application of the slurry

Can be opened to traffic, vehicular or foot, in as little as 1 hour.

Slurry seal can be laid using 3mm aggregate typically for treating footways and 6mm for carriageways

Benefits

  • Prevent water penetration
  • Restores the surface texture
  • Reprofiles the surface
  • Restore the colour of the asphalt surface
  • Only quantities required are mixed so no materials are left unused
  • Can be laid throughout most of the year
  • Ironwork rarely needs adjusting

Why the need to use slurry

In asphalt surfaces the bitumen binder becomes oxidised over time causing erosion of the bitumen/filler/aggregate matrix. Slurry surfacing can be applied to ageing asphalt to seal the top surface, stopping the oxidisation process.

Preparation

The surface to be treated must be free from all dust and loose material and should be cleaned thoroughly with a mechanical broom and/or suction sweeper, supplemented if necessary by hand sweeping. Open cracks must be cleared of vegetation and other loose material. All debris and loose material arising must be removed. Rhino can provide preparation if required.

Slurry is applied in a fluid state and needs no compaction or heavy machinery to provide a long lasting, low cost repair to roads, paths, tracks and footways.

The use of high-performance cold bitumen emulsions binder technology and a specially designed compact mobile mixing machine, results in a surface which has a durable and high-performance finish.
